Sorghaghtami Beki was the mother of Mongolian emperor Kublai Khan and the daughter-in-law of Genghis Khan, and is overshadowed a lot by her male family members. It’s hard to stand out when your close male relations are warlords and emperors, but Beki’s importance to the Empire of Mongolia and her influence over the ruling family can’t be understated. Girlfriend was one powerful lady. After the death of Genghis Khan, there was a mess of a power struggle because there was no established mode of succession.
