Mongolia is undergoing rapid change but it’s not too late to sample life’s simple pleasures, writes Anne Fussell. Some countries make you selfish. They provide such an unforgettable experience for visitors that you want to preserve it even though the march of progress offers improved comfort and economic prosperity to the locals. Mongolia is changing rapidly, for better or for worse, driven by the mining boom that’s under way in the desolate Gobi desert, and in the capital Ulaanbaatar it’s glaringly obvious. Minerals already make up 80 per cent of exports and that is expected to rise to more than 90 per cent in the next decade as its voracious neighbour China fuels its growth. To read the full article, click hereOff the beaten track in Mongolia
